We set off at 7am for our second long day in good spirits. Soon, the cloud came down and a persistent drizzle or light rain set in for the day. Progress was slow over poached paddocks and marshy messes. We diligently followed the orange markers and heaved ourselves over numerous stiles. We stopped briefly, in the open, to damply snack on buckwheat crackers and cottage cheese. A tedious, plodding day.

With the permission of the farm manager we used the swing bridge to cross the flooded Wairaki river and waded across Telford Burn. We set up camp at the end of a 10hr day and feasted on root veg stew with Whisky milk and pear dessert.
